Shrub Appeal
Focusing on Focal Points
This house has a wide profile. The expanse of brick distracts passers by from the front door so the design needs to emphasize the front door as a focal point. To do this we framed the door with bright planters, large decor, and matching shrubs while leaving the rest of the landscape minimal.
We selected very bright shrubs that can be seen from the road. As a plus, the bright green brings the dark trap rock to life. By focusing shrubs around the front door we are creating a focal point and saving the client money and maintenance efforts. The shrubs are small now but will fill in the area upon reaching full size. Dwarf varieties were selected that will never overgrow the space so the client does not need to worry about maintenance issues in the future.
The image to the right shows how the plants have settled in and put on new growth in just one season!
The homeowners did a great job watering these plants after install so they could establish healthy root systems.
