Shrub Appeal
Design, New Install, & Pricing
Planting: ~ $ 7 / 1 gallon pot, ~ $15 / 2-3 gallon pot
This is a general labor cost and does not include the cost of plants. Shrub Appeal can supply plants or install plants provided by the client.
New install: ~ $7 - $15 / sqft
This category of service describes building out new landscaping beds or demolishing and re-planting ~5+ plants.
Shrub Appeal's new installs consistently range between $ 5 - 15 per square foot. You would find yourself on the lower end ($ 5-10 / sqft) if you want to install all baby plants or already have garden beds built out. You might find yourself on the higher end ($ 10-15 / sqft) if you opt for specialty plants, boulders, or higher-end edging details.
If this ballpark estimate agrees with your budget, then you are ready to proceed to the New Install Consultation (below).
A detailed cost report is provided after the onsite consultation as accurate quoting requires measurements and details from the client. Quotes come with photo-edited pictures showing the final design.
New Install Consultation: $110 (applied towards design or install)
Landscapes thrive when you have the right plant in the right place. Site assessments allow us to determine the specific and unique conditions of each planting location so we pick the right plants for you. The assessment fee covers the time we put into designing your gardens, generating a photo-rendering of what your gardens will look like, and a detailed cost report pricing your project down to the nickle. This type of assessment is necessary for large installs or renovations.
During the Site Assessment we may:
Measure light conditions (angle of sun, how the light changes through out the day)
Measure landscape size and spacing
Identify water sources
Examine soil condition and structure (possibly take a soil sample for lab analysis depending on site history)
Record information on existing plantings
Take site pictures
Administer the client questionnaire
Answer questions and provide as much valuable content as possible
The Client Questionnaire will cover:
Style preferences (formal vs informal, color palette, cottage vs traditional vs modern)
Budget considerations
Whether the client wants to visually screen certain areas (ex. block the view of a neighboring parking lot or noisy street)
Whether the client wants something low maintenance
How the client uses the outside space
Who sees the garden (executives, customers, passers by)
Client goals
Garden Design Package: $ 2.5 / sqft
The full design package is ideal for a DIYer who wants to tackle install themselves, a virtual consult client, or someone who wants more detail about their garden than a typical installer would provide. The first step to a custom design plan is the On-Site Consultation, described above. Once the consultation is complete we can move forward with the full design package.
The standard design package includes:
Photo-edited renderings of your proposed design
Plant information notes so you can learn more about your plants and why they are perfect for you
A planting map
Installation notes
Maintenance notes
Details or links to where plants can be purchased
Estimated cost report
Additional services (such as a site map with specific site conditions) can be purchased at additional cost. Design package contents can be negotiated to better fit your budget.
You will have an opportunity to review the plan, ask questions, and provide comments. We are happy to update the landscape plan and quote to further tailor it to your goals.
Exterior Home Finishes Design Package: $ 250 flat rate
We are in the business of creating Curb Appeal. As such, we know exactly how to get the most bang for your buck when it comes to updating your exterior finishes.
This service can be performed over email and phone and does not require an onsite consultation.
This package includes:
Photo-edited renderings of an exterior house makeover (materials and colors for siding, roof, shutters, exterior lights, sidewalks, and more)
Links and suggestions for purchasing materials
Custom Containers: starts at $30 / pot
Does not include the cost of the container.
You many want a custom display if you need something deer resistant, you want to use your own pot, you need something with specific colors, or have specific light needs.
MATERIALS
Shrub Appeal provides all materials at cost. We do not up-charge for materials. If we provide the client with materials, we do charge an hourly rate for the time spent sourcing the material. We do this so you can put your money where it matters. If you want to save money by sourcing all of your own materials, you have that option. Moreover, if we recommend a more expensive product, you can be confident we are making that recommendation solely because it is the best product for you. We do not profit from "up-selling".
QUOTE GUARANTEE
We will not increase the price of our written quotes, even if the job takes us longer than we expected.
If, overall, your project costs Shrub Appeal significantly less than planned (for example, there is less labor involved than expected or we get a good sale on plants) then we will credit you the difference.
The exception to our quote guarantee is if there are unforeseen challenges (for example: a boulder is discovered under the planned garden area or material costs increase by more than 20%).
Quotes are guaranteed for one month after the date of delivery.
Quote vs Estimate: Shrub Appeal considers a quote to be a detailed, written report of job costs and an estimate to be a verbal or casual educated guess as to what the job cost could be. Quotes are precise where estimates are ballpark.
SUBCONTRACTING AND COLLABORATION
We are happy to collaborate with subcontractors on a project to get you the best results.
Grading, patio/deck installation, stonework, and engineered retaining walls are great examples of work that we would subcontract out or collaborate on.
To ensure your design is not compromised, we do not subcontract out garden work.
PAYMENT POLICY
50% payment is due prior to the acquisition of materials and the beginning of work.
At this time, Shrub Appeal accepts payment via cash, check, or venmo.
If necessary, the project can be broken down into steps so installation and payment is spread out over time. This is to be negotiated at the time of the proposal.
Upon acceptance of the project proposal, both the client and Shrub Appeal will sign a payment agreement which outlines the price, scope of work, and timeline of payment/timeline of work to be completed.
