Japanese Maple Pruning

Dwarf trees are often used as focal points in the landscape.  They are prized for their interesting shapes and architectural features. Most clients don't realize that these trees need regular pruning to maintain their artistic look.

This client was looking to put their house on the market and needed to clean up their landscape.  Their Japanese Maple was the centerpiece of the yard.  Over time, it lost its shape and had become a large, red lump.  I pruned the tree to reveal its interesting branching structure and give a sense of negative space under the canopy.  I thinned the branches and trimmed others to accentuate the tree's natural shape.
